House District 94 update for the week of 9/6
Teacher of the Year Top 3 Finalist
Last week, I had the honor of helping surprise Ms. Graciela Miranda at Pike High School to congratulate her on being in the top three finalists for Indiana Teacher of the Year. Ms. Miranda now moves on to be considered for Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced this fall.
I also had the pleasure of sitting in her class while she went through a lesson about the importance of sharing your own story. It was inspiring to watch her interact with her students, and I could see that she was truly shaping them to be lifelong learners. There are over 64,000 phenomenal teachers in our state, so it is a huge honor to be selected as a top three finalist. I am so proud to have Ms. Miranda in our district!
Laborers’ International Union of North America
Over the weekend, I had a blast celebrating Labor Day at the Laborers’ Local 120! Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) is a union of a half-million workers across the United States and Canada in the construction and energy industries. LiUNA is united through collective bargaining agreements, securing them fair pay to support their families, good benefits and advancement opportunities.
Nothing is stronger than the power of many voices joining together to advocate for fair treatment. Thank you to LiUNA and all labor unions as they fight to strengthen the middle class.
Charging the Crossroads: INDOT Stakeholder Meeting
Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM, the Indiana Department of Transportation is holding a meeting for stakeholders to discuss the Charging the Crossroads program at New Augusta Middle School, 6450 Rodebaugh Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
Per their website, Charging the Crossroads is the Indiana Department of Transportation’s plan to invest nearly $100 million to build an electric vehicle (EV) charging network at strategic locations along Indiana’s interstates and highways.
Funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, Indiana’s effort feeds into a national initiative to create a network of at least 500,000 reliable chargers across the U.S. to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles.
INDOT is committed to the equitable expansion of EV charging infrastructure throughout the state. This meeting will provide the opportunity to connect directly with INDOT on the Charging the Crossroads program and provide input, including on Justice40 goals, as well as offering suggestions on how to improve engagement moving forward. 2024 Senior Needs Assessment Survey Now Open
The Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Aging has officially released the 2024 Community Assessment Survey for Older Adults. This survey is open to all Indiana residents aged 60 and older.
Results from this survey will be used to identify the greatest needs and challenges faced by older adults and seniors in our state. This input will inform leaders as they develop policies, initiatives and programs associated with improving the lives of seniors. The survey is seeking insight about experiences with local employment and volunteer opportunities, housing, accessibility, mobility and physical and mental health.
Click here to access the survey. Please share with your 60+ friends, family and neighbors!
For more information on this survey, please contact your local Area Agency on Aging at 800-713-9023 or the Division of Aging at 888-673-0002.
